My Own Prison

Ok to get off the topic of Jonathan for at least one post, I was listening to the radio today and since there is really no good christian station aimed at teenagers that is on the radio in the car I decided to listen to the Bear and I heard an older song called “My Own Prison” by Creed.  I’ve heard this song probably about a million times and I’ve never really listened to the song and really thought about what he was singing about, I mean from a Christian perspective we are all trapped in our “own prison” which would be sin. My own personal is pornography and some certain things that go with that, and for some other people it’s money, I mean everyone has that one thing that they could probably call thier own prison. Now personally this is how I fell to use the words of Creed:

“My skin begins to burn
So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride”

When I start to look at thoses things and act on what I see my skin almost literally starts to burn everywhere from head to toe to the point where I can hardly stand myself for what I am doing and all I can do is look up and say “I’m sorry” and know that is good enough. And usually I can get a certain felling of being hidden from God even though I know that He can see me, but in the words of Creed I have to fuel my own selfishness.

“We’re all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one
I cry out to God
Seeking only his decision
Gabriel stands and confirms
I’ve created my own prison”

And that is true we are all held captive to sin and the strangle-hold that it sometimes seems to have on our life. But we just got to do what Scott Stapp say “Cry out to God and Seek his decision” and pray for refudge from your own prision.

Figuring Out God’s Will

April 5, 2008 at 4:35 am (Faith, general) (, , )

Most Christians have been told that in time God will tell you what He wants you to do in your life. And like I said in my last I’ve been reading “Chasing Daylight” by Erwin Raphael McManus and this book is all basically about the story of Jonathan (1st Samual 13-15) . And it uses something that happened to Jonathan and his armor-bearer, Jonathan felt like the Lord has already granted Isreal victory over the Philistines, and with the knowledge in mind he went to attack the Philistines, ok let me set this up a little more for Jonathon was the son of the king of Isreal at the time Saul and Saul went to “war” with the Philistines and by war I mean he took his “army” of 600 hundred men to sit under a tree. Did I mention that there was only 2 weapons in the whole camp? So let’s just say in our world Isreal didn’t stand a flying chance to win a battle against anyone. But Jonathon through his amazing faith went across to where the Philistines were and of coure they saw Jon and his armor-bearer coming and they yelled down “Hey look the Isrealites have come out of their hiding place” and to comfort his comrade Jon said this:

8 Jonathan said, “Come, then; we will cross over toward the men and let them see us. 9 If they say to us, ‘Wait there until we come to you,’ we will stay where we are and not go up to them. 10 But if they say, ‘Come up to us,’ we will climb up, because that will be our sign that the LORD has given them into our hands.”

Ok now i’m not the biggest military person but I’ve played video games and unless you are playing Halo against a bunch of n00bs then going out into hostile terriotory isn’t really a good idea. And to push that even further Jon said if they come to us we will lose and If we CLIMB up to them we will when, since when is climbing and wasting you energy going to give you an upper hand? And Jon with all those things against him still believed what God had said me personally I’m more of a Gideon asking God like 20 times to show me a sign that this is what he wanted. Now this is where I get into the topic at hand Erwin McManus calls this the “Jonathan Factor” which is being in motion to find God’s calling even if your wrong DO SOMETHING, yes praying and reading the Bible will help but sitting idealy as this generation quite literally goes to Hell is not the way of going about, true God may say stop it isn’t your time to do that but keep trying different things eventually you will find you niche. And you have to keep an open mind about life God might pick you up and move you like he did to the Ruggles family. If God wants you to do something He will tell you but are you going to wait around and do nothing tell He tells you? It’s kinda like the parable that Jesus told:

14“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. 15To one he gave five talents[a] of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. 17So also, the one with the two talents gained two more. 18But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.

19“After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. 20The man who had received the five talents brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.’

21“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

22“The man with the two talents also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two talents; see, I have gained two more.’

23“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

24“Then the man who had received the one talent came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’

26“His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.

28” ‘Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. 29For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. 30And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

We were given the Word to go out and tell people the Good News and if we were commisined to do that then why should we sit back and wait for God to tell us what to do you know that it is going to have to do with showing His Love one way or another so why not do it everytime you get a chance like when you walk into a job you hate smile and be nice to everyone and go to school with a smile and don’t get into the stupid drama show God’s love to everyone.
